Experience. Accountability. Results.

As a former Beaverton High School parent, a parent of four children, and a grandmother of five in K-12 public schools, I am running for the Beaverton School District Board at a critical time. Our district faces significant challenges, including budget constraints, declining enrollment, and the lasting impacts of COVID-19 on student learning and well-being. My leadership experience uniquely equips me to serve as a board director, navigating these complexities with a steadfast commitment to student success, emotional support and resources for teachers, equity-centered policies, and strong community engagement.

“I am excited to endorse Dr. Vân Truong for the school board in Zone 1. With more than 30 years of dedication to education, Dr. Truong has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to putting students at the heart of her decisions. Her ability to adapt educational strategies to meet students where they are makes her an ideal candidate for our school board as we expand dual language opportunities in the Beaverton School District. Dr. Truong’s experience and proactive approach in education policy make her exceptionally suited to not just participate in, but also to lead and innovate within our school board. Her insight will be valuable in driving positive changes and ensuring that our educational practices benefit all students equally.”

Passion to Serve

Education has always been a cornerstone of my family’s values. My mother was a teacher, and my grandfather was both a teacher and a school leader. My younger sister is currently a dedicated public school teacher. Public service is deeply ingrained in our legacy. When my family arrived in the United States as Vietnamese refugees, education provided us with opportunity, stability, and a pathway to success. I have always believed in giving back to express my gratitude, and serving in this capacity is a continuation of that commitment.

With a 30-year career in K-12 public education — as a classroom assistant, teacher, principal, and Interim Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning — I have dedicated my life to advancing student learning and fostering systemic change to create the best instructional environment for teachers and staff.

Today, public education is at a pivotal crossroads. It faces widening achievement gaps post-COVID, increasing absenteeism, and significant budget and service reductions. I believe that, through collaboration and strong leadership, we can address these challenges and create meaningful, lasting change for our students, educators, and community.

Expertise to Lead

My extensive experience in various school-based roles has given me deep insight into the challenges and successes of students, teachers, and parents. As a central office administrator, my expertise lies in educational assessment, program evaluation, leadership training, budget and bond modernizations. I have collaborated extensively with school administrators, educators, and policymakers to drive some of the most high-profile educational innovations.

As a strong advocate for systemic change, I actively serve on multiple non-profit boards, leading initiatives that expand educational access and opportunities for students. My leadership philosophy is rooted in collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable solutions that empower students, elevate their voices, and shape a stronger future for education.
